Functional, well-designed homes have a positive impact on our lives. They combine the things we love with the things we need and are easy to keep clean and organized — no matter how big or not-so-big. Most of us have the foundation for beautiful rooms; our furniture, art and accessories just need to be properly edited, placed and supplemented.
SpaceLift provides guidance and advice, but doesn’t impose a particular style. We encourage you to do as much of the project as you want to on your own, shop where you are comfortable, and have a home that looks and feels the way you want it to.
Susan Larson is a self-taught designer with more than 20 years’ experience in project management and consulting. She has a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and has directed communications and public relations for a number of organizations in Chicago – including the American Institute of Architects and a private foundation for the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
After working with architects and designers for 15 years, Susan opened SpaceLift in 2008.
Susan can address the decorating needs of any home, but focuses specifically on clients who might not otherwise hire an interior designer. She believes any house – big or small, new or old, cookie-cutter or unique – can become a home. Susan uses a majority of what clients already own, adding cost-effective furniture, art and accessories to make a home feel finished, comfortable and a true reflection of its owners.
Susan lives in the suburbs of Chicago in a 1960s split-level with her husband, two children and their pets.
